Intro

What originally this was meant to be a holiday to South Africa however due to South African passport and citizenship issues we had to put the trip back to my home on hold. Feeling disappointed we booked ourselves a holiday to Rhodes.

We found a hotel in the City Centre which was an adjustment. We usually book self catering or an apartment so we can cook ourselves but when booking there weren't many options. In a way this ended up being a blessing as it forced us to get out everyday.

Much like our holiday to Portugal this meant walking everyday exploring the city and old town.

Our very first day we made the typical tourist mistake, ordering from a menu with no prices on it. Being partial to fabulous, coloured drinks we both ordered a fishbowl which came to 30 euros each. We both looked at each other when the bill came and realised our mistake.

It's safe to say we didn't return to that restaurant(Despite doing the typical British thing of saying "We'll be back"). We were much more cautious the rest of the holiday.

We tend to take each day as it comes and the itinerary for the holiday ended up being:

  • A day trip to Lindos

  • A walk to the Acropolis

  • An full day island tour

  • A speedboat ride to Symi Island

Sprinkled in between there was pretty much a visit to old town every other day. We found a lovely place called Socrates Garden which is easily missed. The sound of a water fountain with the smell of jasmine while we ate, drank and soaked up the sun was the highlight of most days.

We also treated ourselves to some bed days. Days to just get some much needed rest from our busy work and study schedules which involved binge watching a few shows on Netflix.

We tend to take our holidays out of season to avoid crowds, so much of the restaurants in town were such or just opening for the season. Much to my dismay on the last day before returning home we found an excellent BBQ place in the city centre that did full on meat platters cheaper than those fishbowl drinks from the first day.

After two weeks we had to say goodbye to our little break. We enjoyed every minute but we were starting to miss home and most importantly our little dog Max.
